The BBC reports
A taxi marshal scheme has begun operating in Chipping Sodbury to help people get home safely.

The marshals will work on Friday and Saturday between 2200 and 0200 GMT.

As well as maintaining safe queues at the taxi rank on Broad Street they will assist police dealing with anti-social behaviour and nuisance noise.
What next? Dressing Marshals? Sex Inspectors? Nottingham already has pedestrian crossing marshals .. .. ..

It's getting silly isn't it ?
I expect that local licensed drivers are perfectly capable of "deterring unlicensed and illegal taxis operating in the town by only allowing South Gloucestershire licensed taxi to access ranks."
