1. DVD playersSo what will cause the demise of each of these items? Computer technology, broadband access and smart phones such as the iPhone will apparently bring about the end of Sat Navs, landline phones, fax machines and DVD players. Analogue TV is nearly gone with the digital switchover still progressing on target for 2012. Dongles though are going to be around as long as there are USB ports and the wii-mote, with it's installed userbase of over 50 million units might be around for a little while longer yet.

No reasons are given for the humble computer mouse or credit cards. Personally can't see these items leaving us just yet, once again due to the massive installed userbase. There's nothing like good investigative reporting to uncover future trends .. .. ..

Cool! I never did get around to getting a SatNav, but I just got an iPhone...

Hmmm. Touch screens for the mouse? And the rise of SmartCards (like the Oyster) for the cards?
Hmmm. Touch screens for the mouse?
Maybe, but like most new technology it takes time to persuade people that the new is better for them than the old. Cost is also an issue when a mouse can be bought for £3 but the cheapest touchscreen is £150 (and that's a 7" monitor, a 17" one is £350).
Chip & pin - too insecure (biometrics?)
Touch screens for the mouse
I think that's what the reporter was thinking but have you ever tried the former for long? A simple, remote pointing device, with as many (tilt)wheels & buttons as you can be bothered with, will, IM(V)HO, always trump the former.
