one man's crusade to increase council tax

The parish council in Roughton, Norfolk, has voted to raise their council tax levy on every household from £28 to £65 next year. The reason? To cover the cost of external auditors examining their accounts when another complaint is made against them.

One of the residents, Tony Musker, wrote a 14 page letter to the external auditor about the 2007/2008 accounts. The investigation cost £9,269 to complete and uncovered a 55p error out of the parish council's £8,500 budget.

Tony Musker has apparently indicated that he will also lodge a complaint about the 2008/2009 accounts. I don't think he's going to be the most popular person in Roughton right now.
