that racist michelle obama picture

The Sun says
WEB giant Google were forced into an apology today after a racist image of Michelle Obama appeared on its site when users searched for photos of the First Lady. Anyone typing "Michelle Obama" into the search engine this morning would have seen a cruelly altered photo depicting the President's wife with monkey features.

In an unprecedented move, Google posted a message on top the images - which is usually reserved for sponsored links - distancing itself from the post. However the shocking image has still not been removed from site's search results.
Just in case you didn't see the image they have thoughtfully reproduced an enlarged copy of the search results to accompany the story. I've screen grabbed the image in case they remove it.

Why did Google feel the need to join in the mea culpa mania ? They don't host the pics, they just point to them.
Congrats for the screen shot as that silly pic does not now seem to appear on The Sun page.
