government approved childcare options

DCSF News reports
Children’s Minister Dawn Primarolo today moved closer to a complete ban on regulation for childcare arrangements between friends where no money changes hands. The common-sense amendment aims to strike a balance between informal arrangements and professional childminders, to give families the freedom to choose from the range of childcare options available to them.

No! No! No!

Firstly the government has absolutely no business interfering in the childcare arrangements that parents agree with their friends. None at all, whether money changes hands or not. This is not a professional childminding service.

Secondly this isn't a common-sense amendment it's the result of the original legislation being hurried through without proper though for the consequences. If more thought had been applied originally there would be no need for this amendment would there?

Banning their own ill-thought regulations, whatever next.
Mind you, old Dawn Primarolo hasn't been in the spotlight much recently.
