With pressure to find cheap housing on the increase the number of sheds stolen has risen at an alarming rate. Sheds are changing hands on the black market as families turn to alternate ways to house their families over the festive period.
Police investigating the crimes think that gangs are stealing sheds to order.
Sgt Steve Edwards said: "The Ashbourne area is a safe place and has some of the lowest crime rates in Derbyshire, but on occasions we are targeted by thieves, who select quieter villages, commit several crimes and leave the area quickly."They have offered tips on theft prevention to the local residents including bringing your shed indoors at night to make it less of a target for the thieves. Any suspicious activity should be reported to Sgt Edwards who may well follow up the calls within a week.
