terrorist or satirist?

From The Argus today comes a story of a photographer from Brighton who was apparently stopped under anti-terrorism laws for photographing Christmas lights.
Andrew White, 33, from Kemp Town, Brighton, was taking snaps of the decorations in Burgess Hill town centre when two Police Community Support Officers started following him as he walked to work.

The two female PCSOs then stopped him and asked why he had been taking pictures and if he was a professional photographer.

When he asked why they wanted to know, the PCSOs told him it was to do with counter-terrorism legislation and demanded his personal details, including his name and address.
For those of you that don't know Burgess Hill let me explain. It's the arsehole of Mid-Sussex. This self-fertilising market town has managed to navigate itself from desirable commuter town to undesirable shit-hole in under a generation as business after business pulls out. There is little of any real value in Burgess Hill. It was not, is not, and is never likely to be a terrorist target.

"...two Police Community Support Officers..."

*rolls eyes*

I'd say that says it all, but then the real police aren't themselves averse to a little bit of this, are they?

A pity that people don't know any better and when challenged by these self-important officious twats should ask to see said legislation or better yet, when stopped request that they present a copy of the PACE guidelines. If they are unable to do so, they have no valid cause to detain you any further nor do you need to provide any personal details.
