choices

One of the government's key education advisers today attacks parents for actually bothering to choose where their children go to school. In an interview with a downmarket lefty rag he condemned parents who send their children to a grammar or private secondary school, rather than to a comprehensive.

"Just because the quality of education is far higher and the opportunities presented to pupils are far greater that's no reason to send your child to a better school" he said. "If all of these students attended their local state run education facility then the standards there might shoot up overnight."

"Despite what you hear from the parents who cannot afford to make choices about the institutions that will educate their progeny state secondary schools are doing very well. Almost a quarter have been judged outstanding. All of the rumours of poor standards, lack of aspiration, violence, disruption, and lack of discipline are just that - rumours. Thanks to repeated changes to the way GCSE papers are graded more students than ever are attaining the highest possible grades."

A new study blames the governemnt for the increased numbers of parents taking an interest in their children's education. David James,in between mediocre performances for the national football team, said that his findings show that Ministers had repeatedly promoted the idea that state schools were a real alternative choice to private schools. Unfortunately, due to high levels of ineptitude, the message had come across to the public that they could, and should, choose to avoid the state system if they could afford it.
