Some *rumours* that have reached me this evening.

In an effort to save money the county council adopted a plan that extended the routes of each gritting lorry. One lorry can only carry a finite amount of rock salt and to cover the longer routes a thinner layer of salt was spread which in turn produces a greatly reduced effect. Shorter routes have been re-instated.

The majority of councils that have sufficient or excess rock salt are run by Conservatives while the majority of those lacking are Labour run.

The government's plan to 'redistribute' rock salt 'effectively' will not compensate the councils who have the excess or penalise those without a sufficient supply.

There is already a rock salt black market.
