Speaking from the brand new, state of the art, DCSF buildings this morning the Minister for Education Related Departmental Excess had this to say about the government's plans for education.

“Personal tuition must not be the preserve of those who can afford it - but must be available to all who need it irrespective of the cost. Even though money is going to be tighter over the years ahead we will extend schools spending, making tough choices and increasing inefficiency especially as we know we can't afford it.”

"The traditional method of one teacher to every 35, even 25, pupils is far too efficient and falls way behind government targets of unnecessary profligate spending. This new guarantee will bring the education system in line with other departments who have been happily spending more than their income for the last 12 years."

The government also announced a number of other educational initiatives, including:
  • Teaching Mandarin to all new starters at school to prepare them for the time when the Chinese take over the world

  • A new maths curriculum that centres around the Gordonomics method of financial control
