Failure by the public to take the government's proclamations about their intake has lead to a radical rethink. As of today local councils have been ordered to ration salt in an effort to force compliance.

"We asked nicely" said the Minister for Great Tasting Vegetables "and then we tried to scare you. Neither of these approaches had a significant effect in reducing the amount of salt you were eating so rationing is the only option left."

HM Customs officers have strict instructions to confiscate any sodium or chlorine they find being smuggled into the country to prevent the production of black market salt. Special investigators have been appointed to the Bureau of Condiments with a specific remit to confiscate any unregistered cellars.
