Police Forces in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire are to have their temporary taxpoints made permanent under proposals released today. Initially installed as 'temporary' under the pretence of keeping the traffic flowing these vital collection devices form a central part of the 'Tax and Control' initiative.
The police are hoping that once they become a permanent feature they can raise fines on more than the 0.07% of drivers who were taxed during the trial period. A Nottinghamshire Police Force (Taxation Division) said "We looked at the M25 cash-cow model and wanted to develop a similar revenue stream. Obviously we will use all of the clichés about safety and road deaths, we may even fake a few crashes to garner public support, but in reality this is about trying to significantly up our income."
"Assuming that the tax rate stays the same we will have recovered the costs of the cameras after 2 years and then it's all gravy after that. With this important cash flow system secured we can look to a future of high tech toys and healthy pension funds."
The Minister for Increased Taxation welcomed the proposals. "As you know my department has been trying for years to educate people about the benefits of increased taxation. Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Police forces are to be commended for the wholehearted support that they have shown in this area."
