debut

Many commentators made disparaging remarks about the prospect of a solo tour by MJG. Indeed many claimed that it was the least creative of the duo, riding on the success of it's now former partner. The opening night of the tour was supposed to be a relatively low key affair in Macau before the larger gigs in Europe and America.

Spurred on by the media storm generated when MJG dangled a sock over the balcony of it's upper floor hotel room, fans bought every ticket for the venue. Demand was so high that rumours of touts charging ten times face value are being investigated by the promotions manager with a view to increasing the cost of entry to future gigs.

After the support act had performed the arena darkened and a single spotlight fell onto the middle of the stage to illuminate MJG. Songs played while it wowed the auditorium with routine after routine. All of the favourite moves were incorporated into the dazzling display - the black panther salute, the wave, the drag slowly across the face, the fist clenched in anguish, the shaking forefinger - the anticipation just grew in the crowd until, at the pinnacle of the performance, the audience exploded when the legendary grabbing of the crotch manoeuvre was executed to perfection.

"I've always felt stifled by my previous partnership" said MJG after the show, "but now I've got a real opportunity to show what I can do by myself. I've been working on some new routines, some ideas that I've had for a long time, and I'm ready to share them with my fans."

"This is, after all, about giving something to them. Without the fans and their support through the difficult times after the separation I might never have made it back on stage. I want to thank them for the positivity they've shown towards me during the last six months. Without them there would be no show."

MJG is performing to sell-out crowds in London from the 29th Feb to the 33rd July 2010
