homeless

New national statistics released today show that despite the tough economic times, the number of those accepted as homeless is down by 72 per cent since 2003.

Accepted as homeless? There are people who live rough who are not accepted as being homeless?

I couldn't find it quickly, what with being a bit thick and all, but I was curious as to where the funding for this '.gov.uk' site comes from?

I'm just guessing it's from our taxes via the government..?

And yet everything reads as a party political broadcast for the Labour party (otherwise going under the label of 'government').

Am I totally mistaken or does something seem dodgy?

Any explanation would be gratefully appreciated from those more knowledgeable than myself..

Anybody know who "directgov.uk" is? Where it's based, how many it employs?

Just asking.

The answer to your question is 'yes' - most homeless people are not, in fact, without a home. They are rehoused before they actually reach "the streets".

Many "roofless" people do not qualify because their condition is "deliberate" and they have no family (i.e. children). Deliberate could mean eviction for non-payment of rent, desertion of a family (surprisingly common) or avoid mental health requirements.

It's a funny old world :)
