unemployment

Last month the figures were reported by the BBC as

This month the BBC reports

I know I'm not totally versed in the arcane knowledge of Government mathematics but that makes no sense to me. How can you increase 663,000 by 61,000 and end up with 687,000?

um, because the first one was talking about month to month and the second was talking quarterly?

@Shug Niggurath - The long term unemployment figure is measured over 3 months? If that's the case then in December the figure was reported as 620,000 so the maths is still 6,000 out.

I realise I may be being overly pedantic ... ...
