ishowu

I've been on the lookout for a while for a useful mac app that allows me to record what I can see and hear on screen. Until now I've had to resort to the 'camera on tripod in front of macbook' technique to get any kind of recording of what I'm doing.

Step forward iShowU from shineywhitebox.

So confidant are the makers that you will purchase their software that you can download the whole program for free to test it out. All features are accessible so you can properly test the package to make sure it is right for you although there is a highly intrusive 'watermark' across the video output until you've paid the $20 (£13.50) charge to unlock and register the software. I tried it twice, playing with the settings, and within 30 minutes of the initial download I'd paid the $20 via paypal.

The process of capturing your screen, or an area of it, is simple. Set the capture area, choose which sound source you want, hit record. Once you've captured the video you want hit finish and it is instantly available to view or edit.

Simple, effective, good value for money.

Thumbs up from me.
