pedantic mode

The tagline under the photo caught my eye. "One pint of beer is three units, according to NHS guidelines".

Then this NHS site must be wrong then when it clearly shows a pint of 4% ABV beer as being 2.3 units?

The constant stealthy changes to how the recommended alcohol intake for an adult is described continues. We've moved (for an adult male) from 28 units per week to 3-4 units per day. The next step will, presumably, be to change the description of the alcohol guidelines to "one pint per day". Cunts

People should think about it.

I remember "The Canarvon castle" opposite camell Llairds ship yard in the 70s, when on shift change 200-300 pint glasses were lined up on the bar, ready filled for the workers coming off shift.

Each worker would down five to ten of them whilst waiting for the bus.

EVERY working day!

Those workers are now in their 80s and 90s.

THAT sais something, surely?

Or do you want to live for ever?

Hmm. Not only there, the pubs around the steel works in Sheffield, The mines in Newcastle, Govan shipyards, etc, etc, etc. They were all the same.

AND, every man jack of them smoked like a chimney going out of fashion!

Why is the Beeb confused? A unit is 10mL (8g) of alcohol. It's arbitrary, but at least there is a UK-agreed definition. The rest is just elementary maths.

It would have to be quite a strong 'beer' for a pint to be three units (about 5.3%), say bottled Old Speckled Hen (cask is weaker)or draught Strongbow (yeuch!)

FT, 50 units? Jees. Are your eyes yellow yet?

Noch eins!

Well, it is not EVERY day, but an avaerage.

And I did not take into account the fact I can finish off a bottle of Gin/rum or vodka in a day, either.

AGAIN, not every day. Maybe once every two months or so.

I would NOT ride my motorbike, but I CAN pass the "Aerobics" test at the end of such a session.
