Heavy drinkers are being warned that there will be no support from AA staff over the May bank holiday weekend as the unions representing the staff have called a two day strike. Police and NHS chiefs have warned that the timing of the strike, so close to the general election, could not have been worse.
"After being subjected to nearly four weeks of bullshit and bollocks many people will have turned to drink to help them through that weekend" said an NHS spokesperson. "To withdraw a vital service for a particularly vulnerable section of the population at such a critical point of the election cycle is desperately unfair."
"We would ask the government to intervene to bring this strike to an end, to ensure that the vital service continues through this difficult period when levels of alcoholism traditionally rise, but they've already got their hands full trying to quell so many other strikes."
