Philips have unveiled a replacement for the 60W incandescent lamp. I don't care whether it saves energy or the environment I WANT ONE! The sheer aesthetic beauty of the product is enough for me.
All looks very good, but the rumours are that it could cost up to $50/£40 per unit!
That makes good economic sense when you look at the output, lifespan etc but it's such a major upfront cost it's not going to catch on quickly (if at all)
I know the initial cost could be a major barrier to widespread use but just look at it! It's a thing of beauty.
I'd buy one just to display it .. ..
I think that, if a way can be found to reduce the cost of manufacture, LED technology is the way forward for energy saving illumination. I hope so, because I don't think that CFLs are all that good.

It doesn't really matter what it look like. In use it won't give out enough light for you to see what it look like.
If you see what I mean.
