tales from the playground

As the new term began this morning the mother of a *difficult* child was heard to say
"He's been a little shit all summer holiday. And he's started to swear again"
Those two statements couldn't possibly be linked could they madam?

It must be peer pressure

I see, so because the mother swears, she's no right to chastise her child for doing likewise?

should the mother also remain celibate if little Johnny takes a natural interest in the contents of Mary J's navy blues behind the bike sheds?

I wonder if the mother likes the odd smoke or drink on a weekend too, should she also abstain on the off chance that little Johnny and his mate pool together their dinner money to buy 10 bensons and a 3l bottle of smart price cider?

Could it be that the mother isn't some pretentious twat who doesn't believe that children are just little adults, and that there's some behavior that while acceptable for adults is certainly unacceptable in children?

I've never much been a fan of "do as I say, not as I do" Budvar.

And yes, I have kids. And yes, I modify my behaviour patterns when I'm around them.

So how far does this "Behavior modification" go then?

Do you ever change a fuse on a plug or fusebox? What would you say if you caught your little one poking around inside them with the screwdrivers, and after telling him "No", he said "But you do Daddy"?

I ask because my youngest (Now 18) was a little fucker for taking powerpoints off the wall and taking the dvd to bits.
I hid my tools, but he'd use knives from out the drawer.

Do you have friends over to share a bottle of wine anytime? Would you be quite happy for young Sebastian and his mates to slurp their way through your stash of Beaujolais nouveau?

Do you ever roll in at 3am after a night out with the lads and not tell anyone where you're going? Would you have nothing to say if young Seb did exactly the same?

The answer you're looking for is a resounding "NO".
