Adur Valley Co-operative Limited

After I had become involved with efforts to rescue Adur Brewery from disappearing into obscurity I put a great deal of time and effort into assisting to set up the co-operative that was going to buy the assets and continue the brewery. As of Tuesday, when out of the blue I received the following message that was circulated to all interested parties, it would seem that that attempt is over.
It is with regret that we write to advise you of the closure of the Co-operative project with immediate effect. The inaugural meeting of the Management Committee took place on 2 May. Matters arose at the meeting and over the subsequent week which convinced the Committee that it was no longer possible to proceed with the project. We have therefore submitted the appropriate form for cancellation to the FSA and the Adur Valley Co-operative Limited has ceased to exist.

The reputation of the Adur Brewery Ltd stands as a tribute to Andy Dwelly’s drive and vision in creating it. We are sad that our own attempt to save the brewery has been unsuccessful. However this project has revealed an amazing degree of enthusiasm and support for the brewery.

If there is another group of people who would like to make their own attempt to take over the brewery we would do what we can to assist them with information acquired from our experience. Andy Dwelly, the Director/Brewer of the Adur Brewery Ltd, has also said that he would provide some basic brewing training for any new organisation taking over the equipment.

However unless someone is able to confirm very quickly that they are willing to take over the operation it is likely that the brewery will be closed down and the equipment sold. If you have a serious proposal for setting up a group to take over the brewery please let us know and we will provide you with relevant information and contacts.

In conclusion we should like to thank everyone for the enthusiasm and support they have shown for the project.

However ........

Negotiations are already underway to try to salvage the brewery in one form or another so all is not lost.

It's a rearguard action now.

***********IMPORTANT**********

If you've hit this page via Google Search because you're thinking of investing in the attempt to resurrect the Adur Valley Co-op can I offer some advice?

Don't.

Just don't.

The people in charge have been faffing about for the last 5 months and STILL haven't got going. My opinion is that they couldn't run a piss-up in a brewery, let alone a brewery. Things they've reportedly said in public meetings made me cry with laughter .. .. .. their lack of understanding of how shit works is laughable.

Think long and hard about how important your savings are before you get involved with them.

OK?

Good.

Hahahahahahahahahaha

I've just read their business plan. If you've seen a copy of this can I tell you two things about it?

1) Much of it is lifted, without request or permission, from something that I wrote nearly a year ago including the image they've used on the front cover.

2) Those projected sales figures? I know they're bollocks because I when I wrote the original projections I was told they weren't optimistic enough and I should increase them. After editing them up considerably the total for the year was £122,000 I was never happy with that as I felt it was far too high given the lack of space at the brewery.

To produce £10k worth of beer you would need to brew a minimum of 8 times per month in a 5 barrel plant. That's about 160 casks of beer. You do the maths .......

I urge you to seriously consider if you can afford to lose your money before you agree to invest.
