Adur Valley Co-operative Limited

After I had become involved with efforts to rescue Adur Brewery from disappearing into obscurity I put a great deal of time and effort into assisting to set up the co-operative that was going to buy the assets and continue the brewery. As of Tuesday, when out of the blue I received the following message that was circulated to all interested parties, it would seem that that attempt is over.
It is with regret that we write to advise you of the closure of the Co-operative project with immediate effect. The inaugural meeting of the Management Committee took place on 2 May. Matters arose at the meeting and over the subsequent week which convinced the Committee that it was no longer possible to proceed with the project. We have therefore submitted the appropriate form for cancellation to the FSA and the Adur Valley Co-operative Limited has ceased to exist.

The reputation of the Adur Brewery Ltd stands as a tribute to Andy Dwelly’s drive and vision in creating it. We are sad that our own attempt to save the brewery has been unsuccessful. However this project has revealed an amazing degree of enthusiasm and support for the brewery.

If there is another group of people who would like to make their own attempt to take over the brewery we would do what we can to assist them with information acquired from our experience. Andy Dwelly, the Director/Brewer of the Adur Brewery Ltd, has also said that he would provide some basic brewing training for any new organisation taking over the equipment.

However unless someone is able to confirm very quickly that they are willing to take over the operation it is likely that the brewery will be closed down and the equipment sold. If you have a serious proposal for setting up a group to take over the brewery please let us know and we will provide you with relevant information and contacts.

In conclusion we should like to thank everyone for the enthusiasm and support they have shown for the project.

However ........

Negotiations are already underway to try to salvage the brewery in one form or another so all is not lost.

local election results

The clear message from the BBC this morning is that the Lib Dems had a really bad night in the election and this is because they are "the whipping boys" or "the human shield" for the Tories. Apparently it is personally bad for Nick Clegg. The result has come about, so we are supposed to believe, because Lib Dem supporters are angry about the Coagulation and the decisions it has made.

Can I offer an alternate solution?

All of those tactical voters, the Anyone But Conservatives, are now voting Labour instead of Lib Dem.

apologies

Blogging has been sporadic at best recently. A number of factors, including setting up a new business venture and pretending to deal with my personal shit, have left me with little inclination to post.

I imagine that I will have more stuff to say soon once this phase of my life has resolved itself.

Hang in there .. .. .. abnormal service will resume shortly
